University of Barcelona

The University of Barcelona (UB) is a State University dedicated to technical-scientific education and research in all Technical and Engineering fields. UB has 5247 professors and researchers and has gained in the past years a remarkable experience in the coordination of projects, both at international and national levels, and it was/is engaged in 450 European Projects from the 4th to the 7th EU Framework Programmes.

Thermal Spray Centre is a research centre from Universitat de Barcelona specialized since 1994 within the field of Surface Engineering. Due to its multidisciplinary staff, CPT can solve any problem in the field of Science and Materials’ Technology. It consists of a team of 22 professionals: experienced researchers with a long-standing professional background and highly qualified technical staff. All of them meet the challenge of working actively with the industry, by reaching the highest quality standards of products and services.

Thermal Spray Centre (CPT) specializes in all kinds of services related to thermal spray technologies as an integral part of surface engineering, and is the only centre in Spain fully dedicated to the research, development and innovation of coatings within the Thermal Spray Technologies.

CPT has facilities with scientific and industrial equipment, which ensures the quality of its products and is accredited by the aeronautical sector. Since 1999, CPT belongs to the TECNIO Network, who includes the centres in Catalonia doing effective technological transfer to industry. CPT is also Member of the Barcelona Knowledge Campus as the Best Campus of International Excellence in Spain.

CPT combines research and technological transfer to implement the thermal spray coatings in the design process and on the production line, for the design of new materials and the evaluation of layers via the analysis of structures and properties, as well as advanced scientific methods, such as the application of standard industrial methodologies. Its research philosophy is based on the integral and interdisciplinary convergence of technologies, processes and materials used in thermal spray.
